Arbroath theatre company hopes to have staged a world record musical – Theatre / Entertainment / Lifestyle / The Courier

A Tayside theatre group hopes to have stormed back into the record books after a whirlwind weekend. The LimeLight Company from Arbroath looks to have wrested back the title for the fastest theatrical production, staging Summer Holiday in just 20 hours and 30 minutes.Organiser Chris O’Mara said he was delighted with the success, having held the record for just 30 days last year before his team was trumped by a youth theatre organisation from Essex.A team of more than 130 actors, singers, dancers and back-stage helpers was assembled for the latest effort at the Webster Theatre in Arbroath. The group only found out at 9.30pm on Friday that they would be performing the Cliff Richard classic, but by 6pm on Saturday the show had begun. To beat the standing record the performance had to be staged within 22 hours and the attempt will now have to be verified by Guinness before, hopefully, becoming official. In addition to actors learning lines, a set was built, tickets were sold, dances were choreographed and costumes were made within the tight schedule.Kerr’s Miniature Railway, at Arbroath’s West Links, loaned the production a miniature bus to use as a prop.Chris said it had been a real community effort to bring the show together and praised the efforts of everyone who had given up time to make it happen.“The audience were absolutely fantastic and we got a huge standing ovation at the end, with everybody singing summer holiday.
