New Volvo XC90 revealed

New Volvo XC90 revealed | Carbuyer.

Images of the long-awaited all-new SUV have been released – ahead of Paris Motor Show debut

The new Volvo XC90 has been fully revealed today after months of teaser images and drip-fed details. The first chance to see the car in the metal will be at the Paris Motor Show in October but for now the new images above give us the first look at the all-new model, which is longer, taller and lower than the current XC90.

New Volvo XC90 design

Arguably the most prominent characteristic of the new design is the car’s nose, which features a chrome-trimmed grille and T-shaped LED daytime running lights that Volvo says were influenced by the mythical object Thor’s Hammer.

The XC90’s new bodywork takes cues from the Volvo Coupe Concept car and has a sculpted bonnet that cuts back into the car’s shoulder lines. These stretch all the way back to the narrower rear lights to accentuate the SUV’s broad stance.

New Volvo XC90 interior

The interior of the car is striking too, with Volvo claiming that it’s the most luxurious to ever feature in one of their cars. The new tablet-like touchscreen fitted to the central console gives the cabin a sleek, uncluttered look, while leather and wood combined with handcrafted details like the crystal glass gear lever and diamond cut controls should ensure the car feels sophisticated and upmarket when you’re inside.

The new XC90 will be the first car to be launched under Volvo’s new ownership and uses the manufacturer’s Scalable Product Architecture technology, which will also be used for a number of future models still in development. The styling of the car also previews Volvos to come, with the grille and headlight designs likely to feature on models released over the next few years.

New Volvo XC90 engines

The seven-seater SUV will be available with 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines, with the XC90 T6 model getting a 316bhp supercharged petrol engine and the D5 version using a 225bhp twin-turbo diesel engine. A 395bhp plug-in hybrid model will also be offered and, despite its high power output, is said to be capable of CO2 emissions of just 60g/km, putting it ahead of rivals like the Porsche Cayenne s E-Hybrid in efficiency terms.

The car will only be offered with four-wheel drive from launch, but a two-wheel drive 187bhp D4 diesel variant will be introduced in September 2015.

New Volvo XC90 safety

Volvo has a great reputation when it comes to safety and that looks certain to be enhanced by the new XC90, which will have plenty of innovative technology. Thanks to a ‘run-off road protection package’, the car will be capable of automatically tightening the seatbelts and activating an energy-absorbing system in the seats when it detects it has moved off the road onto rougher terrain.

Another first will be a system that automatically brakes the car if it detects the driver has turned in front of oncoming traffic. Volvo wants to achieve its vision of no deaths or serious injuries while travelling in one of its cars in 2020 and the new systems, combined with other safety technology, are hoped to bring the company a step closer to that goal.

The new XC90 will initially start at £45,785 for the D5 and customers will be able to place their orders some time between the car’s debut at the Paris Motor Show in October and the end of this year.

New Volvo XC90 First Edition

To celebrate the year of Volvo’s launch, 1,927 ‘First Edition’ models will be available to order online from 3 September. Costing £68,785, they will all come in Onyx Black paint and 21-inch alloy wheels, while the interiors will be finished in orange and black with walnut trim to set the cars apart from the rest of the range. All cars will get unique numbered door sills and a distinctive badge on the bootlid. The car will be powered by one of Volvo’s economical D5 twin turbo diesel engines, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen Camper to return in growing Beetle range | Auto Express

Volkswagen will re-introduce its iconic Camper, as well as a sporty Beetle and an SUV

Volkswagen is working on an all-new Beetle, as well as new retro family of Beetle-based models that’s set to include a revival of the famous campervan, a stylish coupe and a crossover.

The Volkswagen Beetle is based on the MkVI Volkswagen Golf, but this new family of cars will be underpinned by the new MQB vehicle architecture found in the latest Golf.

It’s unclear whether each model will wear the Beetle nameplate, but the belief internally is that Volkswagen’s Beetle brand is strong enough to support a range of models all of its own, as Fiat is doing with the 500, 500X and 500L.

The most exciting model in the proposed future Beetle family is the revived Volkswagen Camper, which we’ve seen most recently as the Bulli concept at 2011’s Geneva Motor Show. That was related to the Volkswagen up! city car and had an all-electric powertrain – but now a larger, Beetle-based model is in favour.

The word from within Volkswagen is that the exterior design will be sixties-inspired, but the technology underneath will be fully up-to-date, including power from the new range of 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines and optional four-wheel drive.

The good news is that a new Volkswagen Cam

Tiny Jeep Renegade Built In Italy Is At The Center Of Fiat-Chrysler’s Global Attack

Past owners of Jeep — including American Motors, Chrysler, Daimler Daimler, Cerberus and now Fiat — have long talked about expanding Jeep sales outside the U.S., citing the brand’s international appeal as an authentic American icon. Their success was always limited, though, by the fact that most of the vehicles in the Jeep lineup were too big — or too thirsty — to suit the needs of consumers in global markets where small, fuel-efficient models are preferred.

Now comes the 2015 Jeep Renegade, the brand’s first subcompact sport-utility, to be unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show. Its debut is a sign that Jeep’s new parent, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, is serious about tackling the rest of the world — not to mention the next generation of drivers. It is also the first Jeep to be built in a Fiat-owned factory since the Italian carmaker took control after Chrysler’s 2009 bankruptcy.

Barely larger than a Fiat 500L, this tiny Jeep has city-sized proportions designed to appeal to youthful and adventurous customers, whether they are maneuvering through a crowded urban setting or climbing a rock-strewn path.

“The all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade expands the brand’s product portfolio and targets the rapidly expanding small SUV segment around the globe with benchmark levels of efficiency and driving dynamics, while at the same time delivering best-in-class 4×4 capability that customers expect from Jeep,” said Mike Manley, Jeep brand president and CEO. “Renegade symbolizes the brand’s renowned American design, ingenuity and innovation, marking the Jeep brand’s first entry into the small SUV segment in more than 100 markets around the globe.”

Incorporating many features that trickled down from the larger Jeep Cherokee, like a unique nine-speed transmission and 16 different powertrain combinations, the new Renegade aims to satisfy consumers by delivering great driving dynamics on both smooth pavement and rutted trails. Its adjustable four-wheel-drive system has auto, snow, sand and mud modes (plus an exclusive rock mode on the Trailhawk model). For an open-air driving experience, drivers can easily remove and store the lightweight roof panels in the rear cargo area.

It also offers technology typically found on larger, more expensive vehicles, including more than 70 safety features, a large touchscreen and Chrysler’s embedded UConnect Access system, which can read text messages to the driver, call for roadside assistance or notify 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.

Chrysler sold a record 731,565 Jeeps worldwide last year, about two-thirds of them in the U.S.

Audi Q1 confirmed – Telegraph

Audi

has confirmed it will build a compact SUV called the Q1 from 2016.

The new model will join the Q3, Q5 and Q7 to provide an entry point into

Audi’s SUV line-up, and will help to bring the total product range to more

than 60 models.

The Q1 will be built alongside the A3, A3 Sportback, A4 and A5 at Audi’s plant

in Ingolstadt, Germany, securing the factory’s future. It will be based on

the VW Group’s MQB platform.

Since launching the Q7 in 2006, SUVs have done good business for Audi, with

more than 1.5 million Q models built to date. The company reports that about

28 per cent of sales this year will be for its sports utility vehicles, and

that this figure is likely to rise to more than 35 per cent by 2020. Most

popular is its mid-size Q5, with about 230,000 built this year, accounting

for more than half of its SUV production.

Mercedes GLA: Frankfurt motor show 2013 | evo

The Mercedes GLA has made its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show. As its name suggests, it’s an all-new compact SUV based on the same platform as the A-class, B-class and CLA. And Mercedes has confirmed an AMG version will follow. The GLA45 AMG will be spun off the same recipe as the A45 AMG and CLA45 AMG, mating a 355bhp 2-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and seven-speed DCT gearbox to all-wheel drive, though its increased ride height and taller stance should provide the chassis a few more challenges than the punchy A45 and aerodynamically svelte CLA45.Previewed by the GLA concept at the Shanghai motor show earlier in the year, the small SUV has been toned down slightly. Although remaining largely unchanged from the concept, the styling of the GLA shares a lot of DNA with the A-Class. Huge attention has been given to the car’s aerodynamics, resulting in a Cd figure of 0.29, impressive for something of its shape.Engines are also shared with the smaller Mercedes, and the entry-level GLA200 comes with the 154bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Mercedes’ cheapest diesel model, the GLA200 CDI, will come with the 134bhp 1.8-litre engine. Both of these models will only be available as front-wheel drive in the UK.In order to get four-wheel drive in the UK, you will have to opt for the 168bhp 2.1-litre diesel GLA22

Jaguar to enter crossover market.

jaguar suv – Bing Images.

Jaguar’s crossover is a more compact type of SUV, which could sell for around £30,000. At that price it would compete directly with the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Autocar claims the Jag crossover will be launched as early as 2016. The company has already been holding customer clinics to gauge the success of the styling proposal.

As depicted in our rendering above, the Jaguar SUV will be a taller-riding, five-door crossover. The firm’s lightweight aluminium construction process has been earmarked for production, in a bid to keep the kerbweight and emissions low while fuel economy and fun handling are high on the agenda.

A new range of four-cylinder engines are being developed by Jaguar Land Rover and they will power the new Jag, as well as the V6 engines already seen in the XF and XJ saloons.
